A few months ago I spent a weekend with my cousin @djshoe412, with the goal of creating a short documentary about his life as a DJ, music producer, and teaching artist with @ymcalighthouse. We spent months planning in order to maximize what was essentially a 48-hour road trip to Pittsburgh, filming non stop (an interview, 2 studio sessions, a 2-hour DJ set, and hours of b-roll around the city), and months of editing and organizing footage, music, and audio. This is a “teaser” for the full film which you can find on YouTube. David has created a life for himself fully about music: making people move on the dance floor, making beats for up and coming musicians, remixing popular tracks, or teaching and inspiring the next generation of Pittsburgh artists, DJ’s, and musicians. This was not only a fun weekend; seeing Pittsburgh and getting a glimpse into my cousin’s life, but a bonding experience I won’t soon forget. This was also an opportunity to push myself into new creative territory. All of the music used was produced by David himself, with sound effects by @epidemicsound. Aside from social media photos/videos from several accounts used with permission, all footage was filmed on location in Pittsburgh, between July 8-11, 2022.
